The former Kanazawa villa, established in 1896, was restored after 100 years the first Prime Minister Hirofumi Ito’s death. The villa was assigned as a tangible cultural property designated by Yokohama City in 2006, and since then, the former villa was surveyed, reconstructed, and finally restored to the original state to open to the public from Autumn, 2009. As we imagined how Hirofumi to had foreseen the future of Japan by watching over the sea of wild birds, we tried recapturing the lawn garden overlooking the sea from the main house, based on available reference about the property. In order to match with renewed house, bamboo fences and stone lantern at the garden were refurbished. Those would be more and more relished as time goes by. An adjacent park, well known with various peonies, was designed to provide visitors relaxing enjoyment along with the villa.
