In Japanese, we call ugly, barren scenery “Dead Landscape”. Indeed, it is a space without life. Essentially, the space created by landscape design is only possible when there is life. The 20th century civilization had become so pathetic that it had to purposely create biotopes and other spaces with living things. In the 21st century, it is a humble mission of us landscape architects to create living landscapes in everyday life everywhere.
